Who hasn’t heard of Batman’s origin story?
I hate to play the, “It’s the whatever year it is” card here because I’m not a communist or a liberal (which is pretty much the same thing these days), but seriously …
It’s 2023.
Unless someone has been living as a total hermit (which I have to admit, sounds really appealing at times), my guess is most people are familiar enough with the general Batman details.
A young Bruce Wayne is out at the theatre (that’s the correct spelling of theatre, by the way, Yankees) one evening with his billionaire parents, papa Thomas and mamma Martha.
The show ends, it’s getting late, and it’s time to head home, but for some reason, instead of hailing a cab, or jumping into their limo, the richest folks in Gotham City decide to take their only child for a walk through an alley. (When you’re that rich, who’s going to argue with that logic, right?)
The family becomes an instant target for some ne’er do well (who knew?!), who tries robbing the parents. Confusion and chaos ensues, the street thug runs off after shooting both Thomas and Martha …
And poor young Bruce is left all alone in the dark with the bodies of his slain mother and father.
The more you think about it, the more you can see how traumatic that moment truly is.
Honestly, how would you have reacted?
Would you have become a stoic, crime-fighting vigilante with a collection of wonderfully expensive toys, or would you have gone down a much darker path?
It was that single, life-defining event that changed the course of young Bruce’s entire life.
Chances are, though, and I’m just guessing here …
You’re not Batman, and you’ve probably never experienced anything like what happened to him as a child …
But I’m sure you’ve faced plenty of struggles and challenges, especially as you were beginning your own adventure as an entrepreneur.
My point here is this:
That story, that struggle, the one that drove and compelled you to take a gamble on yourself, and all the difficulties you faced up until you finally had that big breakthrough …
That’s your origin story …
And if you can craft it the right way, it can be a hidden “super power” for you to start unlocking superhero-level sales.
Why?
People love stories.
If you’re not using them in your sales messages, like your emails or in your presentations, then you’re selling yourself short …
But you have to know how to structure them.
Some people are naturals at it while others aren’t, but don’t worry, anyone can learn the skill.
If you want to talk about it, send an email to [email protected] and include “Batman” in the subject line.
Or, if you want to quibble about the specifics of Bruce Wayne’s origin story, I’m up for that, too.
Stay holy my friend, and God bless.
