I think you know what I’m going to be talking about tonight.
It’s about family, and my friend …
You gotta get your priorities right.
It doesn’t matter how much money your business is bringing in, if you’re putting money first, you ain’t doing it right.
I know …
I know …
It’s not something that a copywriter should be talking about when he’s trying to sell his services to prospective clients, but I don’t care – I have to say it.
God needs to be your number one priority …
Then your family …
Then your finances.
I talk about this a lot because your email marketing isn’t just about sales.
It’s my Big 3 Fs: Faith. Family. Finances.
If you’re putting your money over God or your family, you’re doing it wrong.
Money is a means to an end, not an end in itself or a scorecard.
This hit home for me in a big way over these past two weeks.
Sure, I could have been working more aggressively on getting more clients, working on my new book, or focusing on the administration end of my business, but I couldn’t.
My son has been in the hospital for the past 12 days with a severe case of periorbital cellulitis. Google some pictures of the condition if you want …
The images won’t make your stomach turn, but when you see it happening to a sweet kid of yours, it can break your heart.
Between the trips back and forth to the hospital, being apart from my family over the holidays during my favourite time of the year, and having to hear your son screaming in pain during medical tests …
It’s been a rough one.
Despite all that, one of the amazing things that happened was the quality time I got to spend with my son and wife in that tiny hospital room.
Another miracle is that his vision wasn’t affected by the condition, which was a big concern on Christmas Day.
Then there were all the people telling us they were praying for my boy (and my family), which is a beautiful gift. Why? Because prayer is a powerful way to connect with God, and here we had all these friends and family turning to our Lord for help.
We had great news today, by the way – my son is home now! Praise be to God!
And the time I spent not focusing on sales and focusing on my family instead?
Priceless.
Do you think my son is going to remember that for the rest of his life?
You bet!
And I won’t ever get those moments back, and it was all worth it.
The money comes and goes, as you knows, but my family needed me then to be a rock for them, and I was … by the grace of God, I was.
I hope that’s the kind of attitude you carry into your organization. If it is, we could be a good fit to work together on beefing up your email marketing game. Email me at [email protected] to book your consultation and we’ll see about setting up a meeting.
If money is your main priority, then please …
Don’t bother.
In fact, please leave this website right now and don’t bother signing up for the daily emails.
Again, I know it’s counterintuitive, that a marketer is in the business of making money, but I don’t care.
Your soul is more important to me than a cheque.
Stay holy my friend, and God bless.

P.S. The Feast of the Epiphany is upon us and here’s the Gospel reading, Old Rite styles for the Marketing Traders out there. I won’t be emailing tomorrow because I’ll finally be celebrating Christmas with my family :
GOSPEL Matt. 2:1-12
Now when Jesus therefore was born in Bethlehem of Juda, in the days of king Herod, behold, there came wise men from the East to Jerusalem, saying: “Where is he that is born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East, and are come to adore him.” And king Herod hearing this, was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And assembling together all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where Christ should be born. But they said to him: “In Bethlehem of Juda. For so it is written by the prophet: ‘And thou Bethlehem the land of Juda art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come forth the captain that shall rule my people Israel.’ ” Then Herod, privately calling the wise men learned diligently of them the time of the star which appeared to them; And sending them into Bethlehem, said: Go and diligently inquire after the child, and when you have found him, bring me word again, that I also may come and adore him.
Who having heard the king, went their way; and behold the star which they had seen in the East, went before them, until it came and stood over where the child was. And seeing the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And entering into the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, (here, genuflect) and falling down they adored him: and opening their treasures, they offered him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having received an answer in sleep that they should not return to Herod, they went back another way into their country.
