There are many “secrets” from the world of pro-wrestling that you can use in your own marketing, but if you’re missing this one key element, you’re definitely leaving money on the table.
I’m not talking about the bodyslams, or the armbars, or even the spandex, but hey …
If you want to get into spandex and dropkick something, that’s up to you … I wouldn’t recommend it, in fact, I would advise against it, but like I said, that’s your call.
What I’m getting at here is part of the secret sauce to connecting with your customers.
When you see the best wrestlers doing this on TV, you notice it right away, even if you can’t put it into words.
I’m literally talking about “having fun,” and the point was driven home this week in an interview on the Busted Open Podcast.
WWE star Ronnie Aaron Killings, aka. R-Truth, was on the show, and Bully Ray, one of the hosts, asked Truth about how much fun he’s having with his latest run in the biz.
“I’m havin’ a ball, man,” he said.
He also pulled back the curtain on what makes this concept work:
“You have to display that. If you’re not havin’ fun, I think people can tell. … The fun is just half of the work. The rest of the work is making everyone else have fun and enjoy seeing you have fun to where they are having fun.”
There’s a lot of truth in that, pun intended.
When the wrestlers are having fun, it comes across to the audience, and fans pick up on it naturally, without even realizing it on a conscious level …
People just get it.
You can pick up those same “vibes,” for a lack of a better term, with pro-athletes in other sports, too, like when you see pass rushers celebrating after nailing a sack, or baseball players smiling and laughing it up in the dugout.
How can you use this tidbit in your email marketing?
It starts with you.
You have to get into the right frame of mind before you start writing.
Some athletes call it “getting into the zone,” that place where they’re completely in sync with everything happening in the game.
It’s the same deal with comedians, actors, and even top-level sales professionals.
Have you been in that zone before?
I know I have.
It’s that place where IT just hits you and you’re genuinely having fun while you’re creating or building something.
A lot of people use music to get in the mood, and so do I from time to time.
If you just ain’t feelin’ it, don’t force it …
In fact, don’t even bother trying to write an eblast.
You can “fake the fun” to a degree, I guess, but when it’s not genuine, people will notice.
If there’s someone in your organization who isn’t on the same page with you wanting to try this in your own emails, tell them to chill or you’ll start layin’ the proverbial smack down.
Remember, you’re the boss and it’s your call.
Is there a point where you can take the fun too far?
Absolutely, but I can’t tell you where you have to draw the line, because it’s going to completely depend on your list, and respecting your relationship with Christ.
If this is something you want to explore for your own business, but you aren’t sure where to start, I might be able to help …
I say “might” because I don’t know you right now and we might not be a good fit. While I am taking on more clients at the moment, I won’t work with just anyone.
To see if we’re a good fit, shoot me an email at [email protected] and maybe we can work something out.
I have an offer going right now where you can get 45% off the first month of a new contract. I’m not cheap, so that’s a good savings for you right there, but the deal ends next Thursday.
Why next Thursday?
It’s my birthday and I’m turning 45, so I thought I’d do something crazy.
That’s enough for now.
Stay holy my friend and God bless.

P.S. Here’s the Communion Prayer from today’s Mass in the Old Rite: “Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, he will set him over all his goods.”
